Before the Eurovision returns to Malmö after 11 years, fans are trying to figure out where to say and how to get to Malmö.
When does the Eurovision 2024 (live shows) take place?
Semi-final 1 | 7 May 2024 |
---|---|
Semi-final 2 | 9 May 2024 |
Final | 11 May 2024 |
How to get to Malmö?
There are direct flights to Malmö from
- Tirana, (Albania),
- Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
- Roskilde (Denmark)
- Budapest (Hungary)
- Ohrid (Macedonia)
- Skopje (Macedonia)
- Gdansk (Poland)
- Katowice (Poland)
- Warsaw Chopin (Poland)
- Bucharest (Romania)
- Cluj-Napoca (Romania)
- Belgrade (Serbia)
- Niš (Serbia)
- Stockholm (Arlanda) (Sweden)
- Stockholm (Bromma) (Sweden)
- Visby (Sweden)
All the flights directly to Malmö with the exceptions of the flights from Sweden and Denmark, are operated by WizzAir. So many people will be flying into other airports with preference to Copenhagen due to its proximity. The trains and bus connections (see Flixbus) are great between Malmö and Copenhagen. Malmö Arena, where the Eurovision takes place is one train stop from Copenhagen Airport. It is way cheaper to take the train or a bus than a taxi due to that the crossing of the Öresund Bridge is expensive. In general, trains in Sweden are very reliable. There is also a direct connection from Stockholm.
Book your train ticket via the Swedish train company SJ or your bus ticket via Flixbus.
Accommodations around Malmö
Option 1: Staying in Malmö
The Malmö Arena is at Hyllie station in Malmö. The two hotels the closets are the Quality Hotel View and the Best Western Malmo Arena Hotel. The area is very nice and home to the Emporia Shopping Center, which offers great shopping and quick food options.
However, I recommend staying hotels closer to the city center close to Lilla Torg and Stortorget. Here good options are the Best Western Plus Hotel Noble House and the Best Western Plus Hotel Noble House. These options might be booked for your preferred days, but the area overall is highly recommended. Please note that Lilla Torg is a social area with restaurants and pubs.
Option 2 Staying in Copenhagen
Copenhagen is a great city with a lot of great accommodations. To stay as central as possible, I recommend to stay within the circle formed by the M3 metro line and around Dybblesbro train station. To narrow it down even further, the best locations would be around
- Dybblesbro
- Nørreport*
- Vesterport
- Rådhuspladsen
- Kongens Nytorv
- Østerport
- Copenhagen Central station on the site of Tivoli
*Nørreport: Please note that Nørreport is a popular meeting point and it can be noise, even late at night.
Money Saving: If you want to save money and it is not so important to be central, you can book an accommodation along the M1 line. Good hotels will book out fast, but AirBnB is very popular in Copenhagen. Check their webpage for more options.
Avoid: Copenhagen is a very safe city, but I would avoid hotels close to Nørrebro and Istedgade (red light district)
Please note the train to Malmö stops in Østerport, Nørreport and Copenhagen Central Station.
Good options for hotels are the Tivoli Hotel, Nimb Hotel, Scandic Palace Hotel, Phoenix Copenhagen and the WakeUp Copenhagen hotels (very affordable).
Option 3: Staying in Lund
Lund is a smaller town than Malmo, but it has a rich history and stunning architecture. Their are direct and good train connections from Malmö to Lund. It takes around 25 min from Malmo Arena to Lund. Good options in Lund are Radisson Blue Hotel Lund and Best Western Plus Hotell Nordic Lund.
Conclusion
There are great options to stay around Malmo. I recommend option 2. Copenhagen is cultural city with many attractions, great restaurants and things to do. Book you accommodation as soon as possible and enjoy the party. Looking forward to see who wins the Eurovision 2024.
